Local Porterville students have created a record-setting campaign for the annual Toys for Tots program that helps to collect new and unwrapped toys to distribute as Christmas gifts to less fortunate children in the community.
Students Glaire Antonio (Harmony Magnet Academy) and Luis Galvan (Monache High School) spearheaded the toy drive that included PUSD Pathways and AVID interns from Harmony and Monache as well as Granite Hills and Porterville High Schools, Bartlett Middle School and Springville Union School.
This year’s campaign produced 1,323 toys, along with $631.60 in cash donations by PUSD high-school students.
The students volunteered several weekends at the Commission Honorifica warehouse in preparing the toys for distribution. Toys will be distributed to children in Porterville, Springville, Terra Bella, Plainview and Strathmore.
